Yes, you need to create a free account. This allows us to securely back up your data, sync it across your devices, and protect you from losing your journal entries if your browser cache is cleared.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) for instant offline loading and editing. When sync is enabled, it is also backed up securely to our cloud database. You can turn sync on or off at any time in your Settings.
Can I use Purist offline or turn off sync?
Yes. Purist is built local-first, meaning it works fully offline. You can disable cloud sync in your settings to keep your data exclusively on your device, or use offline mode to write on the go—your entries will sync once you are back online.
What does Purist+ unlock?
Purist+ is our premium tier ($3.99/mo or $29.99/yr). It unlocks the Weekly, Monthly, and Upcoming planning views, unlimited habits (free tier is capped at 3), and unlimited custom spaces (free tier is capped at 1).
How secure is sync between devices?
All synced entries are transmitted securely over SSL and protected by strict database Row-Level Security (RLS) policies. Only your authenticated user account has access to read or write your sync logs.
Is the iPhone app coming soon?
Yes, a native iOS app is currently in development. Right now, Purist Journal works great as a mobile web app on your phone.
